Our Happy Tails of Adopted Animals!

Featured Cat- BATMAN!

Batman is a super sweet male kitten. This little guy LOVES to cuddle. He will perch on your shoulder and happily nibble on your earlobes and purr loudly in your ear. He would love to come home with you and be your own personal superhero!

Featured Dog - WOOKIE & CHAI

Wookie & Chai are 2 month old Husky cross puppies. They are both very friendly and affectionate. Wookie is black and beige and Chai is a beautiful chocolate brown and tan color. They sleep quietly through the night in their crate and are working on their house training and doing really well! Please consider giving one of these sweet puppies a home!

NOTE TO ADOPTERS: Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, Toto, Sassy and Fluffy don't show up in rescue. We don't get the elegantly coiffed, classically beautiful, completely trained, perfectly behaved dogs or cats. We get the leftovers. Dogs & Cats that other people have incompetently bred, inadequately socialized, ineffectively "trained," and badly treated. Most Rescue animals have had it. They've been pushed from one lousy situation to another. They've never had proper veterinary care, kind and consistent training, or sufficient company. They've lived outside, tied up, in a crate, or in the basement. They're scared, depressed and anxious. Some are angry. Some are sick. Some have given up. But we are an Animal Rescue and we don't give up. We know that dogs & cats are living beings, with a spirit and a heart and feelings. Our animals are not commodities, things, or garbage. They are part of sacred creation and they deserve as much love and care and respect as the next Westminster champion. So please.....please don't come to rescue in the hopes of getting a "bargain," or indeed of "getting" anything. Come to Rescue to give, to love, to save a life – and to mend your own spirit. For Rescue will reward you in ways you never thought possible. I can promise you this -- a rescue pet will make you a better person.~Diane Morgan

The Meadow Lake & District Humane Society is one of 3000 shelters participating in the IAMS Home for the Holidays adoption drive. The drive runs from October 1, 2008 through January 5, 2009. Iam’s goal is 1 million adoptions. Each adoption through MLDHS counts towards the 1 million-adoption goal. Our goal for this year is to adopt out 10 Dogs, 5 Puppies, 8 Cats and 5 Kittens. We hope that people will open up their hearts and homes to shelter animals over the holiday season so we can surpass this goal! So far we have adopted out 3 Puppies, 3 Cats, and 5 Kittens since October 1st!

MLDHS is in need of Foster Homes!! Both Full-time & Part-time! If you are uncertain about adopting a dog and the commitment involved, please consider becoming a weekend foster home! You can take a shelter dog into your home for a weekend to give it the experience of a home environment, lots of attention, and socialization, as well as a much needed break from the shelter! Many great shelter dogs are with us for long periods of time, and while we try to make their stay in the shelter as comfortable as possible, nothing is better than being in a home, even if it's just for a couple of days! If this sounds like something you or someone you know would be interested in doing, please contact MLDHS.

MLDHS had the great opportunity of purchasing a set of Kennels in conjunction with the Town of Meadow Lake. We are now able to take care of more animals than we have been able to in the past. Thank you to the Town for investing in the animals futures! The dogs and cats are enjoying their new safe and clean environment!

Who We Are

The Meadow Lake & District Humane Society was formed in the summer of 2003. The MLDHS is an animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing homeless, unwanted, and abandoned animals. Our other main objective is to spread the spay/neuter message in an effort to prevent overpopulation.

All of our income is derived from memberships, donations, adoption fees, and income from doing pound maintenance for the Town of Meadow Lake.

Memberships can be purchased - please email us for details.
